About UsMy siblings were homeschooled. I wasn't.
The idea was novel, but I was a full time career mom and couldn't imagine having the skill to teach my daughter to read, write and all those things. Every day I went to pick her up from daycare, I stayed an extra fourty five minutes just playing with her and the other children. It was relaxing, rejuvenating and it was fun. The joy I had being with the little kids was something a loan file and customer service call could never fill. I began to cut my hours back more so I could spend more time with my daughter at her daycare. Within a year I decided to leave full time work and work towards developing the skills to become a daycare provider. So WHAT does THAT have to do with home schooling? As I watched my daughter develop and grow I discovered that desire to teach her, nuture her was a gifting and talent I possed. I taught her to read, her numbers about science and art. Then her siblings came along THREE AT ONCE and I taught them as well. Then foster siblings and finally my first and only son. Then another son, with an autism diagnosis. Then older kids, who were failing in public school and just needed a place to feel successful. Homeschooling is a natural part of our lives. Every moment is teachable and doesn't have to be a formal sit down and do worksheets moment. Now I have junior high students, school tends to be more formal but still delight driven. These are OUR lessons. I share with you in hopes you will find the joy I did in seeing your child learn and achieve succeed. |
